Jenna’s Blog | Part Two

Hello again, yep it’s me, Taylas mum.

I’m writing another set of reviews today, this time about some Clinique products I have.  I put the brands I have together just for ease.  I think my next instalment is a mixture of products and brands, hopefully it won’t be too messy 😉
photo-2
I have been using the Clinique 3 step system for a few years and have got on with it brilliantly.  It’s only my curiousness and the price of Clinique that has made me venture into trying other products.  I got my Clinique bits and bobs when we went on holiday to Florida so with the exchange rate I paid quite a bit less than the prices I’ve listed.  The prices listed are from the Boots website and these are MY OPINIONS.

Liquid facial soap.  Combination oily to oily skin, 200ml, allergy tested.  Step 1. £16
Non scented.
Great soap, has a gentle lather and doesn’t leave my face feeling dry and tight.
My fall back facial soap, great stuff.

Clarifying lotion 3.  Combination oily, 487ml, allergy tested.  Step 2. £26 (for 400ml)
Says fragrance free but you can smell alcohol in it. Can also feel it tingle when swept over your skin, which I like.
I’ve not found it very good as an exfoliator like described on the bottle, good as a toner though.
I have the bottle with the pump in the top because I bought it in America, I don’t know if you can get the pump in the UK.

Dramatically different moisturising gel. Combination oily to oily skin,125ml, allergy tested. Step 3. £30.
Says fragrance free but I think it has a very light clean smell.
A little goes a long way, so you can use sparingly. Absorbs quickly and easily.  Doesn’t leave skin matte but not shiny either.
My fall back moisturiser, I have a new bottle in the cupboard ready to go.

Take the day off make up remover for lids, lashes and lips.  50ml, allergy tested. £17 (for 125ml)
This is Such a small bottle as i got this in a sample pack with another purchase.
Non scented.
This is the best waterproof eye makeup remover I have ever used!!! I love it so have been using it sparingly, making it last rather than buying a new bottle.  I’m so tight lol.  Would recommend it to anyone.  Never tried it on my lips though as I never have lips left on by the end of the day.

Repairwear intensive eye cream.  15ml, allergy tested, ophthalmologist tested.

(I don’t think they make this anymore so I can’t find a price)

A nice eye cream that isn’t at all greasy and is easily absorbed.  Feels lovely but not seen any difference on my lines and wrinkles.

Acne solutions cleansing foam.  125ml, salicylic acid acne medication. Allergy tested. £17.
Says fragrance free but has a slight medicated and sweet smell.
This product is also part of the 3 step system buy I only have this step. Cleanses your skin really well but be very careful near your eyes.  At the moment it’s too much for my skin so will probably end up giving it away.

Self sun body daily moisturiser.  Light/medium, 75ml, allergy tested. £19 (for 125 ml).
Says fragrance free but I think it has a rather strong scent, a funky buttery type smell.  It’s pretty much the same deal as the dove self tanning moisturiser, put a bit on each day and build it up each day until you get the desired colour.  Works great and created a beautiful light tan (great for us pale people). Doesn’t last that long but non of them do, shame it is stinky! I got this free in my sample pack with another purchase.

There you go, another set of reviews from my perspective.  Remember I am in my early 40’s so if you’re a young whippersnapper it will probably not apply to you. Anyway I hope someone finds this helpful 🙂

Until next time…..

Everyday Go To Make Up | Back To School

Hey Dolls,

Hope you are all well!

This post goes out to all the little beauties out there who have recently started back to school or those looking for a quick and easy go to daily makeup. The reason I dedicate it for all the youngun’s out there is because my 15 year old sister has recently started back and described how the teachers are stripping young teenagers of their individuality and unique personalities away.

Going round class by class with nail polish remover and makeup remover and saying only natural coloured hair is allowed. I see the point and how it should be about the education not what you look like, but I also feel that making it about no makeup, no hair, no expression, is going to do the complete opposite to the teenagers in education.

Uniform is in place to ensure that everyone is wearing the same thing to minimise bullying, but every teenager needs an outlet for expression. I don’t what I would have done without a little bit of makeup in school because I suffered with horrid acne, and without that cover up I probably wouldn’t have wanted to leave the house.

I feel education is most important and towards the end of my educational period at my particular school, the education deteriorated and so did my motivation. One of my classes was a complete joke, with one teacher teaching two different levels at the same time, and my complaints led to me having to take time out of my time out of school hours to get the lessons I should have had during school hours.

So instead of focusing on how girls apply their makeup and spending the money on removers, how about focusing on ensuring teachers and students are thriving to do the best they can do? There should be limit on how much makeup is worn, obviously it would be unacceptable to walk in with full on clubbing makeup during the day, but a little bit of creativity could just help someone find themselves. Hell, thats what your teenage years are for! So I am going to show how I wear my makeup when I can’t be bothered or when I going for a more natural and pretty looks..

First things first…. The products. image-7So here I have (In order of application after moisturiser and primer – will not cover the application of my eyebrows)

ELF Cover Stick concealer in Ivory £1.95

NYC 14hr Long Lasting Foundation in Classic Ivory £3.99

Maybelline Super Stay Waterproof Powder in Ivory £5.99

Natural Collection Blusher in Pink Cloud £1.99

-Calvin Klien Cream Eye Shadow In Snake Skin Silver (Poundland)

MUA Matte Eye Shadow Palette in Ever After (Using shades Bare and Smoke) £4.00

MUA Eye Shadow Palette in Heaven & Earth (Using shades Amber Dune)

Essence Waterproof Mascara in Black. £2.50

ELF Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Pink Lemonade £1.95

My point was great coverage for a flawless, glowing skin for those who suffer with acne or those pesky imperfections (I still do, so please don’t let it worry you, just make sure you find a really good skin care routine, if you want me to share mine just let me know). You don’t want to piss off you teachers either, so ensure you pick a foundation that really suits your skin colour. I am a rather pale person so I have to swatch with the testers before I buy.

For this look as well, you don’t want to apply tonnes of everything. No Tarantula eyelashes and unfortunately no statement lips.

So a super quick run down of my application.

I used the ELF coverstick to cover my imperfections whether they be large pore or blemishes. Before blending I then applied my NYC foundation. You want to ensure you blend down the neck, towards your hairline and by the ears (we don’t want the lines). It feels slightly heavy but don’t worry about using one or the other if you don’t have those imperfections on your skin, this is about making you look as natural as possible. Dabbing the powder on with my powder brush to start with as to ensure that the base we applied isn’t smudged nor moved around the face the way we don’t want to do. Once that has done, nice gentle circles to finish the application to just finish covering any shines. If you like the dewy look and are comfortable with it – go with it, i’m just very much a powder finish gal.

Then with a cheeky smile gentle apply the blusher on the apples of your cheeks. The great thing about the Natural Collection blusher is that is doesn’t look heavy, you very much have to build the colour up step by step which is great for achieving the natural look. image-11 The Calvin Klien cream eyeshadow was a little bargain of mine and bought in multiple colours. The pigmentation is just perfect to use as a highlighter to heighten the eyes under the brow. Also is great for a little primer eyeshadow primer ;). I applied this with the light matte eyeshadow to bring back that natural finish. I added another MUA pale brown colour in the corners of my eyes, simply to add definition, but this doesn’t need to be done. Using the MUA Matte black shadow, I used this in place of my usual liquid liner. It softens the application just sightly widening the eyes, adding a very subtle definition. The Essence Black Mascara is very difficult to clump your lashes so again it will add a very subtle definition make you feel that bit more comfy (can’t leave the house without mascara). If you already have dark eyelashes, trying using a clear mascara just to add that pop. That way it will look even more natural. image-10 The lipstick is applied like a gloss as is absolutely perfect as it is close to my lip colour already. Matching the lip stick to your skin tone and lip colour is essential to complete the look. It adds confidence and just a little pop to your pout. image-8 image-9

I hope this helps those who struggle with their school. Take a selfie of your natural makeup and take me in them on twitter or Instagram so I can see! Good luck.

Goodbye for now xo

Howdo!  Taylas mum here, back to do as requested by Tayla and write a few bits about beauty stuff I like.

photo
As you can see from the photo, I have acquired a few things from No7 recently.  I haven’t been using these products for very long, so far I am liking them a lot.  The things I have purchased have been on the recommendation from a couple of different sales ladies in Boots.  I always go to great lengths to explain that I have very very oily skin and would do anything short of involving needles/scalpels to get rid of my old lady eyes!

Trying to keep this post from turning into an essay, I thought I’d write short and sweet descriptions of each product I own.  Again, these are MY OPINIONS, I am not trained in anything to do with skin care, just a regular schmo 🙂

Beautiful skin night cream.  Normal/oily hypo-allergenic, 50ml, £13.50.
Lightly perfumed scent.
Light and quickly absorbed and non greasy.
I do wake up shiny, but so far it’s not blocked my pores or broken me out.

Beautiful skin day cream. Normal/oily, spf15, 5*uva, hypo-allergenic, 50ml, £12.50.
Again even lightlier (is that even a word?!) scented.
Feels thicker so takes a bit longer to absorb, but it’s non greasy.
Dries semi matte but I’ve found it doesn’t stay that way.  It’s not helped slow down the production of my oil.

Protect & perfect intense advanced serum.  Hypo allergenic, 30ml, £24.95.
Fragrance free.
Absorbs easily and non greasy.
Can’t say I see it doing anything extra for my skin though and I’ve been using this about a month longer than the other products. Says it should supercharge my skincare regime……wish it would hurry up and kick into action 😉

Lift & luminate eye cream. 5*uva, hypo allergenic, 15ml, £16
Lightly scented
Absorbs easily and non greasy
Not had it long enough to see if it works, I do have my fingers crossed though!

Beautiful skin eye make up remover. All skin types, hypo allergenic, 100ml, Phthalmologist tested, £8.50.
Fragrance free.
Works ace on waterproof mascara, great stuff and I will definitely be repurchasing.

Beautiful skin hot cloth cleanser.  All skin types, hypo allergenic, 200ml, £9.95.
The scent reminds me of my nan but not in an old lady way.
Comes with muslin cloth
Easy to use, leaves skin feelin soft and if you go over your lips it feels like butter.
Won this in a competition from Chelsea, wasn’t something I have ever been temped to by myself before but will now 🙂

Beautiful skin cleansing Brush. £24.95.
I got this beauty as a gift from my girls and I love, love, love it. It doesn’t use the batteries too quick, would be even more fab if it was rechargeable (why have I not put some rechargeable batteries in it then, such a div!). Just be careful of your hairline, I can assure you that you don’t want it catching – OUCHIE!

Completely quenched moisturising body lotion.  Hypo allergenic, 200ml, £10.50.
Smells lovely.
Doesn’t soak into my skin, not sure if my skin is just weird as I’ve read good reviews on it.  Maybe my skin just isn’t that dry. I shall probably use this on my dry feet, that’s always a good use for a rich moisturiser.

There you go, my review.  Well done if you’ve reached the end lol.  No7 is a great brand and like I’ve said I’m liking what I have.  There is always a promotion on with vouchers at the till or 3 for 2 offers which make most of these products very reasonably priced too!  Hope you’ve found something I’ve waffled on about helpful.

Until next time…..

Introducing…

Hey there,

Today I have a little treat. I am introducing a new guest blogger who will share thoughts, hints and tips on beauty products designed for a completely different skin type to mine!

I speak about her all the time and she is genuinely my absolute hero! She is my Mum!!

Here she prepared a little intro but her first post will be tomorrow!

Enjoy xo

Hey
Let me introduce myself, I’m Jenna and I’m Taylas mum.  She has asked me to write about my experience with beauty products from a perspective of someone who has very difference skin type to hers.

I have very oily skin, large pores and being a ‘lady of a certain age’ some lines and wrinkles.  I am on what seems a never ending quest to find something to solve these problems, without injections or the use of a surgeon and as cheaply as possible😉. I absolutely love me a bargain!!!

Like Tayla I LOVE LOVE LOVE make up, nail art and hair styling.  I have quite a collection of nail products from polish to stamps and am lucky enough to have 3 daughters with beautiful nails who let me play and decorate their talons pretty much how I like.  On occasion they will also let me do their hair and make up, we’ve had a few afternoons copying some YouTube eye make up tutorials and having a giggle! Good times 😊

So there you go, that’s me.  Occasionally I will contribute to Taylas blog and I hope I don’t bore you too much with my limited experiences and knowledge.

Until then….
