Jenna’s Blog | Part Two

Hello again, yep it’s me, Taylas mum.

I’m writing another set of reviews today, this time about some Clinique products I have.  I put the brands I have together just for ease.  I think my next instalment is a mixture of products and brands, hopefully it won’t be too messy 😉
photo-2
I have been using the Clinique 3 step system for a few years and have got on with it brilliantly.  It’s only my curiousness and the price of Clinique that has made me venture into trying other products.  I got my Clinique bits and bobs when we went on holiday to Florida so with the exchange rate I paid quite a bit less than the prices I’ve listed.  The prices listed are from the Boots website and these are MY OPINIONS.

Liquid facial soap.  Combination oily to oily skin, 200ml, allergy tested.  Step 1. £16
Non scented.
Great soap, has a gentle lather and doesn’t leave my face feeling dry and tight.
My fall back facial soap, great stuff.

Clarifying lotion 3.  Combination oily, 487ml, allergy tested.  Step 2. £26 (for 400ml)
Says fragrance free but you can smell alcohol in it. Can also feel it tingle when swept over your skin, which I like.
I’ve not found it very good as an exfoliator like described on the bottle, good as a toner though.
I have the bottle with the pump in the top because I bought it in America, I don’t know if you can get the pump in the UK.

Dramatically different moisturising gel. Combination oily to oily skin,125ml, allergy tested. Step 3. £30.
Says fragrance free but I think it has a very light clean smell.
A little goes a long way, so you can use sparingly. Absorbs quickly and easily.  Doesn’t leave skin matte but not shiny either.
My fall back moisturiser, I have a new bottle in the cupboard ready to go.

Take the day off make up remover for lids, lashes and lips.  50ml, allergy tested. £17 (for 125ml)
This is Such a small bottle as i got this in a sample pack with another purchase.
Non scented.
This is the best waterproof eye makeup remover I have ever used!!! I love it so have been using it sparingly, making it last rather than buying a new bottle.  I’m so tight lol.  Would recommend it to anyone.  Never tried it on my lips though as I never have lips left on by the end of the day.

Repairwear intensive eye cream.  15ml, allergy tested, ophthalmologist tested.

(I don’t think they make this anymore so I can’t find a price)

A nice eye cream that isn’t at all greasy and is easily absorbed.  Feels lovely but not seen any difference on my lines and wrinkles.

Acne solutions cleansing foam.  125ml, salicylic acid acne medication. Allergy tested. £17.
Says fragrance free but has a slight medicated and sweet smell.
This product is also part of the 3 step system buy I only have this step. Cleanses your skin really well but be very careful near your eyes.  At the moment it’s too much for my skin so will probably end up giving it away.

Self sun body daily moisturiser.  Light/medium, 75ml, allergy tested. £19 (for 125 ml).
Says fragrance free but I think it has a rather strong scent, a funky buttery type smell.  It’s pretty much the same deal as the dove self tanning moisturiser, put a bit on each day and build it up each day until you get the desired colour.  Works great and created a beautiful light tan (great for us pale people). Doesn’t last that long but non of them do, shame it is stinky! I got this free in my sample pack with another purchase.

There you go, another set of reviews from my perspective.  Remember I am in my early 40’s so if you’re a young whippersnapper it will probably not apply to you. Anyway I hope someone finds this helpful 🙂

Until next time…..

Howdo!  Taylas mum here, back to do as requested by Tayla and write a few bits about beauty stuff I like.

photo
As you can see from the photo, I have acquired a few things from No7 recently.  I haven’t been using these products for very long, so far I am liking them a lot.  The things I have purchased have been on the recommendation from a couple of different sales ladies in Boots.  I always go to great lengths to explain that I have very very oily skin and would do anything short of involving needles/scalpels to get rid of my old lady eyes!

Trying to keep this post from turning into an essay, I thought I’d write short and sweet descriptions of each product I own.  Again, these are MY OPINIONS, I am not trained in anything to do with skin care, just a regular schmo 🙂

Beautiful skin night cream.  Normal/oily hypo-allergenic, 50ml, £13.50.
Lightly perfumed scent.
Light and quickly absorbed and non greasy.
I do wake up shiny, but so far it’s not blocked my pores or broken me out.

Beautiful skin day cream. Normal/oily, spf15, 5*uva, hypo-allergenic, 50ml, £12.50.
Again even lightlier (is that even a word?!) scented.
Feels thicker so takes a bit longer to absorb, but it’s non greasy.
Dries semi matte but I’ve found it doesn’t stay that way.  It’s not helped slow down the production of my oil.

Protect & perfect intense advanced serum.  Hypo allergenic, 30ml, £24.95.
Fragrance free.
Absorbs easily and non greasy.
Can’t say I see it doing anything extra for my skin though and I’ve been using this about a month longer than the other products. Says it should supercharge my skincare regime……wish it would hurry up and kick into action 😉

Lift & luminate eye cream. 5*uva, hypo allergenic, 15ml, £16
Lightly scented
Absorbs easily and non greasy
Not had it long enough to see if it works, I do have my fingers crossed though!

Beautiful skin eye make up remover. All skin types, hypo allergenic, 100ml, Phthalmologist tested, £8.50.
Fragrance free.
Works ace on waterproof mascara, great stuff and I will definitely be repurchasing.

Beautiful skin hot cloth cleanser.  All skin types, hypo allergenic, 200ml, £9.95.
The scent reminds me of my nan but not in an old lady way.
Comes with muslin cloth
Easy to use, leaves skin feelin soft and if you go over your lips it feels like butter.
Won this in a competition from Chelsea, wasn’t something I have ever been temped to by myself before but will now 🙂

Beautiful skin cleansing Brush. £24.95.
I got this beauty as a gift from my girls and I love, love, love it. It doesn’t use the batteries too quick, would be even more fab if it was rechargeable (why have I not put some rechargeable batteries in it then, such a div!). Just be careful of your hairline, I can assure you that you don’t want it catching – OUCHIE!

Completely quenched moisturising body lotion.  Hypo allergenic, 200ml, £10.50.
Smells lovely.
Doesn’t soak into my skin, not sure if my skin is just weird as I’ve read good reviews on it.  Maybe my skin just isn’t that dry. I shall probably use this on my dry feet, that’s always a good use for a rich moisturiser.

There you go, my review.  Well done if you’ve reached the end lol.  No7 is a great brand and like I’ve said I’m liking what I have.  There is always a promotion on with vouchers at the till or 3 for 2 offers which make most of these products very reasonably priced too!  Hope you’ve found something I’ve waffled on about helpful.

Until next time…..

Introducing…

Hey there,

Today I have a little treat. I am introducing a new guest blogger who will share thoughts, hints and tips on beauty products designed for a completely different skin type to mine!

I speak about her all the time and she is genuinely my absolute hero! She is my Mum!!

Here she prepared a little intro but her first post will be tomorrow!

Enjoy xo

Hey
Let me introduce myself, I’m Jenna and I’m Taylas mum.  She has asked me to write about my experience with beauty products from a perspective of someone who has very difference skin type to hers.

I have very oily skin, large pores and being a ‘lady of a certain age’ some lines and wrinkles.  I am on what seems a never ending quest to find something to solve these problems, without injections or the use of a surgeon and as cheaply as possible😉. I absolutely love me a bargain!!!

Like Tayla I LOVE LOVE LOVE make up, nail art and hair styling.  I have quite a collection of nail products from polish to stamps and am lucky enough to have 3 daughters with beautiful nails who let me play and decorate their talons pretty much how I like.  On occasion they will also let me do their hair and make up, we’ve had a few afternoons copying some YouTube eye make up tutorials and having a giggle! Good times 😊

So there you go, that’s me.  Occasionally I will contribute to Taylas blog and I hope I don’t bore you too much with my limited experiences and knowledge.

Until then….

I Have A Treat For You!

Hello there Guys and Girls,

I have a treat for you all these evening!!!

Do you remember my previous post “I am a Coco-nut”?? Well When I made this product, I made it with one of my best friends! So I asked her if she could write a blog post for me as a guest blogger. As she is truly amazing, she agreed to do so! I asked her so you guys could really understand why I am so excited about this particular product and so you could have a second opinion on it.

So here goes, this is what my good friend Chelsea had to say….

I’m going coco-nuts!!

Hello to the viewers of Tayla’s blog.

I’m her friend Chelsea, she has asked me to be a guest blogger and share my thoughts and experiences with you on our most recent beauty bargain item… The Coconut Oil.

Personally, I LOVE IT!

As Tayla and I don’t believe in spending an arm and a leg for the “best” (COUGH most expensive) we love looking for beauty DIY’s so we can look good and feel happy knowing our purses haven’t been ransacked. Also it’s fun experimenting with natural ingredients. Who knows what you will make?

After reading this one from the blog ‘Love Maegan’ we just had to try it. Tayla has already explained but basically, we bought some coconut oil in a jar, we whipped it with an electric hand whisk and voila! You have a moisturiser made from completely natural ingredients. No harsh chemicals, colours or preservatives just natural coconut oil left to set in a jar ready to be whipped ;).

I have used this heavenly coconut mousse as an in shower moisturiser; a make-up remover; a moisturiser; a shaving cream/gel; a lip balm and an everyday moisturiser. Whilst experimenting with all of these different day to day beauty needs I have come across some ups and downs which I want to share with you…

1. First things first, once whipped I would try to use it over the next 5 days, else like mine, it will start to set like it was in the jar. You don’t need to keep whipping it but if it gets a bit too hard then maybe whip less up next time or just give it a quick stir around.

2. Once whipped the coconut oil releases more of the natural oils because it is no longer a solid. So if you have oily prone skin you may want to use less or if your skin is like mine, sensitive and dry, then you may want to use more. However, I wouldn’t use this product as a daily moisturiser on your face as the oils can block your pores and create spots. As a daily moisturiser for your body etc. this is a great product but for your face I would say use 2-3 times a week max, unless you’re just purely using it as a make-up remover then every day is fine as long as you swill your face off afterwards.

3. I URGE you not to use this as a conditioner after shampooing unless your prepared to leave the coconut oil in overnight else you’ll come to blow dry your hair and then realise it’s greasy as hell afterwards, I unfortunately found this one out yesterday!! I tried this as a conditioner but like I just said my hair was so greasy it was disgusting. As I didn’t have time to wash my hair again I thought right Ill carry on the experiment and leave it in overnight till this morning. After a normal shampoo and light conditioning my hair is so soft and feels nourished. So although I had to walk around with my hair like a chip pan all day my hair is definitely thankful for it now!!

4. I (and Tayla) have found the best way to use this product when it comes to your hair is as a serum. You’ve heard of Argain Oil?? Well this is all natural coconut oil!! Once you’ve done your usual shampoo and conditioning in the shower towel dry your hair until hair is damp. Get some mousse on your hands and from the bottom of your crown down rub in some of the oil. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT rub into your roots as you will be back to square one and

back in that shower. Once rubbed into your ends brush or comb then blow dry your hair and you will see a big difference in the frizziness and softness of your hair.

5. If you forget to buy shaving gel and realise your legs are getting a bit prickly then just use this bad boy. Rub over your legs, arms… and then just start shaving. Once you’ve swilled your legs afterwards you’ll feel how smooth they are and will never go back to an ordinary, soapy shaving cream again!! Also whilst in the shower use the mousse as a way to lock in moisture. Just before you get out rub it all over your body (like you would baby oil), dry yourself off and then BAM your clean, smell fresh and lovingly moisturised.

6. Finally, as a lip balm, facemask and make-up remover it’s pretty simple to use. Smother over your face and leave on for at least 5 mins, (it won’t go hard) and then swill off the facemask with a gentle cleanser. Or as a make-up remover, rub some of the mouse over your face and then begin to wipe off with cotton wool pads, that way you won’t damage your skin with harsh exfoliators or face wipes. And last but not least, lip balm! This kinda stuff is definitely for those horrible, rough, winter chapped lips that we all get!! I would only put a bit on during the day as the mousse is so greasy, although it tastes soooo good. Before you go to bed, put a good amount on and around your lips and then settle yourself in for the night. Your partner will thank me one day for you’re oh so kissable lips.

I know I babble on a bit but there you have it!! A natural and cost effective beauty product that goes along way, I hope that this product and the tips given work just as well for you as it has for me. If you find another use for it then let us know by leaving a comment, also let us know how you get on!

Bye 🙂 xo
