Recent Favourites | Face

Hey Dolls,

I have once again been MIA but I have recently been in hospital and made some MAJOR changed to my life in general. I won’t go into details but I just wanted to apologise.

It is my first blog post since my name change as “Those Perfect Imperfections” and I am even in the process of making it my own domain! Yeehaar! The reason for my name changes and why I chose the name I did, is in the “My name is Tayla” section above, so don’t hesitate to take a look and share your thoughts. Don’t forget to share your URLs so I can have a nosy at your blogs too!!

Moving on then my beauties, today I am sharing with you a few of my recent favourites for your face! Skin care and Makeup included! Woohoo!

So , first I have this Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water.  I found this one on offer in Boots, so I couldn’t resist. I was intrigued as I have read about it and thought I had to try it. It promises to cleanse, remove makeup and soothe the skin. I can tell you now it does all of those things. I have relatively sensitive skin due to eczema and acne flare ups and I genuinely believe at the moment, my skin hasn’t felt so smooth and soft! It is hypoallergenic and isn’t perfumed. It is gentle enough to use on the eyes and the lips!

IMG_5249

It is normally £4.99 but at the moment is £3.99 so make sure you don’t miss out!

My other skin care products that I love, love, love are the Simple Rich Moisturiser, Nivea Q10 Night Cream and the Witch Primer.

IMG_5251

Simple Rich Moisturiser – £3.99 (currently 3for2 on Simple at Boots)

Nivea Q10 Night Cream – £9.99 (currently £4.99 at Boots)

Witch Anti Blemish Primer – £6.99 at Superdrug

I need a rich moisturiser as my skin is very damaged due to scarring and get very dry very quickly. I love the feeling of a nice thick moisturiser and face cream but this is definitely not too thick. It works fast and as it is from the simple range it is designed to be “Kind to Skin”.

The Nivea Q10 was given to me by my Mum because she wasn’t a fan. She has the opposite skin to me so she can be quite oily which makes some products to her difficult to use. Why she didn’t like it I’m not 100% sure but I think it was just a general dislike. I personally love it again because it has a nice thick texture. I like to know my products are working and this is one those that I can instantly feel working. It is always good to start on the anti wrinkle creams early to help prevent the buggers!

The Witch Primer was recommended to me by my sister, Shannan. I find that it genuinely has helped my acne especially after all the drugs from being in hospital. It helps fill in my pores to create a smooth base ready for my foundation and it does this without clogging them. Exactly what I look for in a primer. It is oil and fragrance free so again, perfect for the sensitive skin!

I think I have made it clear I like a thick face cream, I also like a heavy coverage on my face with my foundations. I know it sounds a lot, but I am self conscious of my skin because of the damage teenage acne caused me :(. I find that Max Factor foundations give me the great coverage I want without the cake face that everyone dreads. I use the cover stick on it’s when I am having a great skin day, but I will use the cover stick underneath the foundation as a good base when my skin isn’t so great. I always try to the palest shades to compliment my skin. The coverage makes me feel like for once I have flawless skin so at the moment it is all I wear! I have previously wrote about the Colour Adapt, and you can find that HERE. The Lasting Performance, once again Max Factor has kept their promise, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. I am SO impressed with Max Factor, the have a devoted customer in me! ALL MAX FACTOR CURRENTLY 3 for 2 IN BOOTS

Lasting Performance Foundation – £9.99 in Boots

Pan Stick – £6.99 in Boots

I am one of those crazy people who CANNOT live without a powder. I hate the dewy finish because it makes me feel like I am greasy and slipping around the place. It is very rare I stick to the same powder and it is very rare I have more than one at a time. I don’t know why but it is the only product that I don’t have loads of! At the moment I am wearing Essence. Oh my god ladies, get to Wilko NOW! I found out about Essence through tonnes of bloggers around Europe and how my mother nagged me to buy her some when I went to Spain. I came back from Spain to this beauty in Wilko and I can’t believe the quality of all their products for the price! The Powder is amaze balls for the price and I must say I will repurchase! I get a little oily at certain times of the month and I find that it isn’t strong enough to hold through the oil all day, but it takes seconds for a quick top up and so I don’t even care! It is from the Mattifying Range so gives me the lovely matte look that I love.

 IMG_4854

The Rimmel Wake Me Up is a little gem found in Poundland of all places. I use it when I looking for an all day coverage and it helps my powder hold that little bit better. If I am looking for a light coverage for a more natural look, again this is amazing! It doesn’t leave me feeling greasy and holds in place.

The ELF blusher is a beauty. It is perfect for a night out simply because it has a little bit more glitter that you would wear for a day time blush, but the pigmentation is great for the price. I have had this blush for over a year now and it’s still going so you don’t even need to use much at one time! Perfection!

The MUA highlighter is so inexpensive that I had to buy it. MUA is only sold in Superdrug at all their products are super pigmented. I have nearly all their eyeshadow palettes so I knew this would be great little product. Although its great it can take the smallest amount to be too much. If you apply too much it can leave you looking too shiny, so just be careful when applying!

Essence Mattifying Powder – £2.80 Wilko

Rimmel Wake Me Up Liquid Blush – £1 Poundland

ELF Blush – £3.95

MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter – £3.00 Superdrug (Currently 3 for 2)

I did have loads of eye makeup to show you as well but I will save that for part 2 tomorrow so make sure you check it out.

Goodbye for now my loves! xo

Experiment | Letting Your Boyfriend Do Your Make Up

Hey guys.

If you are reading this post, I really would like to say thank you. I have put a lot of effort into blogging and looking at everyone who sends their blog links to me. I will always read, share and follow, especially on social networking – mainly Twitter. @writtenbytayla. But I will so been branching out into the world of Facebook and creating a page on there so keep a look out.

Moving on swiftly…. the title of today’s blog pretty much speaks for it’s self. I have in fact let my boyfriend, Dan, take control of my face. He was willing to help me with a blog post and we came up with this as a way for him to get involved. 🙂 so grateful for his help and him supporting me.

So I gave him a list of what needs to be used, and for him to choose from my collection. Here is what he chose…

*Disclaimer – sorry about the poor photos, it was a spur of the moment experiment and some bulbs in our house has unfortunately gone. 😦 *

Right so there is everything. I have linked up all the products and which products I have posted about previously with the link to that too, so you know where to find them with the prices. He didn’t know what he was picking – as he is clueless when it comes to makeup and products. So it was unintentional that the products he chose were ELF. But at least he picked the affordable products – not that I buy any other kind! This blog is all about the budget baby!

Image

So we have stage one – no makeup. Making the task even more difficult for him, I have unfortunately poor skin right now. Very red and a few angry looking spots. It happens sometimes no matter what products I am using to help.

The only instruction I gave him was “make me look like you would be happy to be seen outside the house with me”. There was no particular occasion given, just he had to be happy to see my looking like this.

He accepted his challenge and then began. As he was unsure of what products did what, the only thing I told him was what they were and what they were used for. He knew the basics – foundation covers the face and mascara the lashes, but primer was something he had not heard of.

Applying the primer consisted of dragging his hands down my face – some what amusing for him.

Image

He applied my ELF primer and then went straight into the foundation. It was a cream foundation applies with the round sponge given and he covered. He then found the redness in my spots were too much for the foundation and applied the cover stick followed by the booster, Telling him the booster was to set the foundation into place otherwise I would slide around all greasy. (not cool)

Image

The Cover girl blush was almost all gone, so he struggled to apply this, but just applied in circular motion on the apples of my cheeks – just like a doll.

Image

Eyebrows – my poor poor eyebrows…

Image

Image

Eye shadow followed and he said “You where a lot of purple so I choose that”. My face was in shock. I am not a fan of bright purples on my eyes as I do suffer with dark shadows so I always appear to look like I have been punched in the face. He literally slabbed it on with no blending or other colour just a shocking purple.

Image

He got extremely excited when he picked up my eyeliner and his eyes lit up. He knew what he wanted to do and there was no stopping him. I asked him to be gentle as eyeliners are my babies, and this one was received in my new BirchBox (review in my previous post). I felt the tip hit my temple and I knew I was screwed from that very moment. He was worried about applying the mascara as it was a really chunky brush, but he carried on and was careful.

Image

Image

The lipstick was applied just on my bottom lip and he asked me “rub my lips together” to spread the colour.

Image

And then he was done. How beautiful, right?

ImageImage

From there, what I decided to do was use the exact products again and create my own look and show him how it is really done. I am not a professional makeup artist, and the lighting is rubbish because my bedroom light bulb went, so I am sorry about that, but I used the tools I had and carried on.

Here is my step by step picture timeline…

January Birchbox | My Thoughts

Hey guys,

I know this is completely lately but only over the last week have I received my first Birchbox. There was a slight confusion with my order but their customer support over e-mail very quickly helped with my concerns over delivery.

I have my February Box due any day now as the payment came out unexpectedly a few days after the first.

So, I wanted to sign up to a beauty box because I really wanted to widen my knowledge of products and try some new goodies. I have been looking into Glossy Box and Birch Box for months and months, and I chose Birch Box simply because my friend at Chelsea Talks chose to go for Glossy Box.

When I got home from work after my boyfriend, Dan, accepted delivery for me, I must say my first impression was disappointment. Everyone’s pictures made the box look a lot bigger than it actually is. I would probably say it was a bit smaller than an A5 size.

Image

The box was very dull – well, for a beauty box anyway. I was expecting something girly and fun.

Image

I will re use the box for storage – I am a sucker for boxes. I opened the box and found a cute little bag. I thought this was very fun and different, and again would re use the bag for some storage for my products when travelling.

Image

The box came with a little book called Tiny Tweaks. I thought this was a really sweet idea. It was filled with little suggestions to help make life that little bit better. Little, easy changes that could help you in the long run. For example – “take the stairs in stead of the lift” or  “add a slice of lemon to hot water first thing to kick start your metabolism”. I really liked this idea and thought that although they were generalised for everyone, adapting each little hint or idea to suit yourself and lifestyle could really help you in the long run.

Image

This little french product is a moisturiser and it is advised for the face and neck. It is a very simple, attractive packaging, but a horrific looking pricetag. £54.75!!! I am afraid of using it to it’s full potential incase I fall head over heels in love, because unfortunately this is out of my price range. Smells good though!

Image

Here is a sample of Philip Kingsley’s moisture balancing conditioner. I have A LOT of thick curly hair so this sample is just not enough for me. I am not doubting its capabilities but I feel that I would only just half a use out of it. I think I will give this product to my little sister who has shorter hair and get her to review it for you all. Retailing at £18 I doubt that even if I liked it, I wouldn’t buy it. I am too fond of my bank friendly Herbal Essenses.

ImageImageImage

Absolutely devastated that when I opened this product it was CRACKED. It had leaked over all of my products, and nearly ruined it all. I managed to salvage everything but I thought that this was necessary. There was absolutely no damage, dents or cracks on my box, even the postage box, which suggests to me that someone had but it cracked into the box whilst it was being packed. Literally ruined the whole Birchbox experience for me, and has been enough for me to already think about cancelling my subscription. However, the product smelt delicious. I thought it was very limey. For a body lotion, again it is definitely not enough, but I have used it sparingly mainly on the tops my arms where It can get a bit dry. It was good, mainly just for the smell. The consistency was in between thick and runny so wasn’t greasy at all. Retails at £12.95. I personally wouldn’t spend this amount on a body lotion – You all know how much I love Nivea, and that is a little bit thicker.

Image

I was SO excited when I read that Birchbox has teamed with Benefit and that I would be finally getting to try out the Porefessional. Retailing at £24.50 I was very skeptical, especially as almost every blogger and YouTuber that I have read/watched, has raved about the product. I used it over my cheeks surrounding my nose where the majority of my pores are gigantic and on my fore head just slightly above my eyebrows, in the centre. Althought I felt that It didn’t completely make them disappear it was very good at keeping me shine free throughout the day. I wouldn’t rely on it the way a lot of bloggers do, but I would consider purchasing it.

Image

I must say that I am enjoying using Lavera’s handcream. It smells lovely and has a nice texture. Retailing at only £4.45 I would buy this in a full size.It is vegan friendly as well, which is always a bonus. I use this before bed and leaves my hands feeling lovely.

Image

Having found this little gem in the box I was, and still am very nervous to try it. Receiving a soup in a paste was weird enough, and it is as simple as adding hot water. I was talking about this with my mum and think that adding some noodles to bulk it out would probably make me feel a little more comfortable trying it. I am not adventurous as I once was when it comes to food so I am unsure. I will definitely give it a go, but not just yet – will let you know when I do. If you have tried it, please let me know what you thought!

The subscription is £10 per month with £2.95 p&p

So there was my very first Birchbox. Overall I am not incredibly happy with what I received. I definitely would prefer a box that sent me makeup instead of lotions and potions. I found that the sample size would have been something that I could probably get for free if I went to the right department store and I was under the impression that they would be deluxe sample sizes, not quite full size but definitely bigger that they were. waaaah

I will get back to you guys once I have opened and had a play around with my February box as it will be the decider as to whether I will cancel my subscription. I am always one to give a second chance, especially as this is something that can be hit or miss.

Do you have any subscriptions that would be ideal for what I am looking for? What did you think of your January Birchbox?

Let me know!!

Face | Foundations I Wouldn’t Buy Again.

Hey there pretty people!

How are we this fine Thursday eve!?

I am so sorry I have been MIA this past week, I have had my lovely monthly migraine and it completely wiped me out. If you have read any of my previous posts, you will have noticed that I have mentioned my migraines, and I tend to get them once a month (brought with aunt flow) but recently they seem to have eased right down, but this week they have all caught up with each other and just left me useless. I was even sent home from work on Monday because of it, which has ruined my work record! I have been at my current job for nearly 2 and half years, and only had 1 sick day (from my migraine) and now this half a sick day so I am gutted!!

But if you are ill, you’re ill right?!

Do any of you suffer with migraine? How do you handle or control them? what is the quickest way you find shifts the pain/sickness/vision loss? Would love to know, I have a really low pain thresh hold so I think it was really mean of my body to make me suffer this much!! I find a dark, cool room, snuggly pj’s and being surrounded but wet flannels and ice packs helps me!

Anyway, moving on!

Today my Mum surprised me with a spontaneous visit to come and say hello with my little sister. It was lovely to spend my evening with pleasant company as my boyfriend works nights, so I spend a lot of time on my own.

She asked me to show her my vanity storage and desk, including the contents of it, and I found my self going “oh my god this is amazing” or “I don’t like this, but you probably will, why don’t you have it to try”. I gave my Mum a good few products to try, and hopefully she comes back with a review of some of them and writes me a guest blog (like she keeps promising 😉 ) and maybe she can give a different opinion to what I have to say. We have quite different skin types, I am combination skin and she tends to have oily skin, which can make a big difference on how we feel about certain products.

So I have written a few reviews on some of my favourite foundations so I think it is about time I shared my opinions on some foundations that I purchased over the past year and didn’t really find myself liking as much as I thought I would. They are all of different brands, and doesn’t mean I don’t like that particular brand completely, JUST this particular product. I will always justify my reviews with my personal opinion and no one else’s. All products have been paid for by my self, unless stated otherwise.

Let’s get the ball rolling shall we!?

I am going to start with an E.L.F product and it is one I was really excited to try, so I think maybe it was my expectations were too high.

It was a product I put on my Christmas list, so my dearest mother bought it for me. I tried a small hand sample, as you do, when I went to Cardiff for my birthday and we visited the store, and the little swatch of it I applied to my hand I was SO impressed with. I think it was a bit misleading how the good the coverage was. It was the “HD Mattifying Cream Foundation” and it comes in this little compact.

Image

I LOVE the packaging, but the product did not do what it said on the tin. waaaahhh! I tend to have my oily skin days, but not regularly, however I found that the days I wore this product it definitely was not mattifying and did not last the whole day. It left my face patchy and slippery, especially around the T-zone area. I tried a few different powders to see there was any problems with certain ones, but had the same result multiple times. I was gutted. I was surprised to see on the front of the lid, it said “oil free”. I don’t necessarily think it’s telling any porkie pies but it definitely did not sit well with my skin. I would however use the remaining amount for a coverage that wasn’t needed all day, such as a night out. It always lasted a few hours before becoming oily, so for short term wear, I would rate it as it had a good coverage to begin with.

My foundation number two would be the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation.

Image

I found the colouring was a good match for my pasty skin, which is probably the number one problem I have with foundation, but I was let down by the coverage. As I have many many skin imperfections from teenage acne and scarring I do like a good thick, light weight foundation that has a really good coverage. I would recommend this one to any one who doesn’t have problematic skin with minimal flaws and doesn’t might a very light coverage. I found it to be quite runny which is another thing I don’t like with some foundations. The packaging is lovely though so it sits nicely in my drawer. This is one of the products I gave to my mum to try and she doesn’t need or like a heavy foundation the way I do :). I would not mind trying the concealer in this range simply because the colour match was pretty much spot on for me and softer concealers are good for under the eye.

 – If you have read any of my previous posts, you will have read my review on Rimmel’s Matte Mousse Foundation, which is now one of my absolute faves, so like I said, it isn not the brand completely, it is just this particular product, that I personally don’t get on with. –

My final foundation that I am not too keen on would be Maybelline’s Fit Me range. I don’t use many of their products but I have found them to be a reliable brand from what I have picked up in the past. I picked this foundation up on my travels to LA back in 2012, and I on and off use it just to double check that my skin hasn’t changed. Again the colouring matched well but it was a very runny foundation and like I said – for me, that not cool. I find that runnier foundation leave me oily and sticky even with powder to set the coverage. They don’t last all day on my skin, so it’s not ideal if I want to stay fresh faced. This is a product that I think My mum liked though, with her light weight foundations, so again this is just from personal preference. The other problem I had with this is that THERE IS NO PUMP which makes it super easy to get the contents out  the world’s most infuriating thing when you have loads of product left that just will not come out! Grrrrr – one of life’s annoying things.

Image

I loooooove foundation packaging, it always looks so smart.

How do you feel about these products? Let me know 🙂

Today’s Look | Nice and Simple

Hey Beauties!

How are we all today? I have an a day off work today so what an opportunity for me to document a few stages of my make process, I even had the courage to take a completely naked face selfie – sorry if it cracks all your screens 😉

On all the days off that I have, I will try my best to create a new look and document the process, and even eventually if you guys like it and encourage me enough, I will set up a youtube channel! eeeek! (currently saving for a new camera for this so I will keep you posted!!)

I am thinking of posting a few nice valentines day looks for all you lucky ladies with dates and plans, and my looks will range from the ‘no makeup, makeup’ look for those who want to look effortlessly amazing to those who lip the eyes and lips to stand out. What do you all think of that? I think I will do it anyway! haha!

Anyways, so back to business. today I chose to play around with my new makeup palette that I received as a gift, but I wasn’t in the mood for heavy makeup as I had no plans to even leave the house! Not because I am lazy, but going out means spending money I don’t have and I am too close to pay day to risk that!

So here goes..

No makeup what so ever…Warning…it is not a pretty sight! (excuse the hair and major rootage).

Image

I look thrilled to be taking that picture! Anyway, I covered my mug with my good old trusty Max Factor Colour adapt (after priming with my refreshing Nivea Express Hydrating Primer) and my new Rimmel Stay Matte Powder. To finish my base off, I added some ELF blush and even a slight contour with one of the colours in my super duper ELF palettes. (all these products I have spoken about in previous posts).

Image

Image

Looking slightly happier now as you can tell!! – Yes still in my pj’s here too. No judgements please! (I did get dressed though, i just have a particular routine and makeup before getting dressed is just WRONG in the mornings. Simply because I have a habit of spilling things. Though I brush my teeth after I get dressed and well, thats never a good idea.)

I didn’t worry too much about my eyebrows as I wasn’t leaving the house and I am in dire need of a tint and shape!!!!!!!!! ahhh It is so embarrassing! The over grown slug look is NOT attractive.

Here is the palette I recieved as a gift from my beautiful Mumma!

ImageImageImage

Mum, having done her research has told me that this is a replica of the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette. I have always wanted to invest in these palettes but having been the higher end makeup brand, it has never been ideal for me to spend over £30 on just one palette. I think I will eventually invest in them but for now, just my lovely drugstore, lower end makeup does me just fine. I love shopping on a budget because I always find a lot of people out there are willing to spend a hell of a lot of money on particular items where I can find similar products cheaper, so I can get more for my money. My blog is about finding good value products that do their job, not reviewing products that everyday people like myself can’t really afford! Maybe one day!

Anyway, It is beautiful isn’t it? I was so chuffed when My Mum gave me this, lots of looks and experimenting is to be done!!

I only used 3 colours today. Sand, Wave and Silk.

I applied sand as my base colour, all over the eyelid and under the brow line. Adding a pale colour here will open your eyes more and help define your brow that little bit extra. I used the Wave over the crease, with the ELF crease brush, and then the Silk over the eyelid under the crease. Here is the look…ImageImage

Excusing the gigantic forehead, I must apologise for the quality of the picture. I didn’t quite realise how bad it was, but I think you get the idea. 🙂

I added the ELF cream eyeliner in black along the lash line (applying this with the brush it came with), and then a black crayon along the waterline of my top lid – again the ELF mineral crayon.

I felt that I could add me some lashes on today as I wasn’t in rush for work, and I wanted to keep them natural to keep the look nice, simple and everyday. So, I chose some lashes I received for Christmas from my little sister, Lowen. She purchased them from Wilkinson for the bargain price of 50p!!!!!! I wasn’t expecting them to be any good at all, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have a thing about using my own glue (Elyure bottle of glue can be bought from Boots for around £3.99 and has lasted me forever!!) as sometimes with the cheaper lashes the quality of glue isn’t great.

ImageImageImageImage

Just add a small amount of mascara to blend in your natural lash to the falsies and you’re good to go. I think I used an NYC mascara, as the brush was small and doesn’t clump.

At this point, I curled my hair, got dressed and then brushed my teeth ready to apply some lippy!! For christmas, I received a couple of lip stains, to help keep my lipstick looking freshly applied all day. They were purchased at Primark at £1.50 per one, and OMG I order you all to stock up!! I was so impressed with it that I will be buying all the colours. I applied this in a pinky tone and then added some lip gloss by ELF.

Image

Look at the colour pay off just from a stain! This stain lasted even longer than the gloss, so I am more and more impressed every time I use it.

Image

The only down all the gloss is that the glitter in it can be felt when wearing it. It sometimes feels like I am have sugar on my lips which can feel uncomfortable, but this isn’t annoying enough for me to not wear or like it.

One thing I didn’t do was take a full photo of the finished result 😦 (i know – slap my wrists) but I did receive a compliment from my boyfriend so I must have looked alright!!

My jumper for the day..

And my nails 🙂
